Während die Beta von World of Warcraft: Cataclysm fortschreitet, wird langsam das Archäologie-System implementiert. Dieser Zweitberuf war ursprünglich als Fähigkeit für den Pfad der Titanen gedacht, mit dem Ihr dann Glyphenslots und Runen finden, zusammenfügen und einbauen solltet. Nachdem der Pfad der Titanen entfernt wurde, ist Archäologie ein Beruf, bei dem Ihr eher optische und nicht für den Kampf notwendige Dinge finden und erforschen könnt – also Reittiere und Begleiter. Hin und wieder werdet Ihr auch rare Gegenstände finden.
Es wird folgende Archäologie-Bäume im Spiel geben – soweit bis jetzt bekannt: Zwerge, Draenei, Fossilien, Nachtelf, Nerubisch, Ork, Tol’vir, Troll, Vrykul und “andere”. Welche unterschiedlichen Werte und Gegenstände daraus erwachsen, ist zurzeit noch Spekulation. Bis jetzt ist nur die Zwergen- Archäologie im Spiel enthalten und auch nur rudimentär. Übersetzungen existieren ebenfalls noch nicht, nur die englischen Originale.
